In 1831, Reverend Robert Taylor, formerly an ordained priest in the Church of England, was indicted for blasphemy and sentenced to serve two years in prison for challenging the rigid religious dogma of his time. His crime: daring to renounce the accepted teachings of the Church and suggest his own educated observations and interpretations about the foundations of Christianity. The Devil's Pulpit collects all of Taylor's original spirited sermons on the topic. Analyzing the roots of the Bible, Taylor explores how pagan sun worship practices, Greek and Roman mythology, ancient Egyptian society, astrology, and astronomy all serve as direct undercurrents of Christianity. With insightful prose and razor-sharp clarity, he explains how many of the New Testament stories essentially parallel-and in fact often appear to merely be reworked versions of-much-older pagan myths and astrological allegories (e.g., twelve disciples of the son of God; twelve Zodiac signs signifying sun worship, etc.). The only book you need to read on the Bible to know the truth behind what the Bible entails. It all encodes the sun and the path of the sun - 12 apostles, 12 signs of the zodiac, etc. A must read for all Christians to get at the truth . A real eye opener. Thankful this book is still in print. This 14 dollar option is pretty good quality. Don't spend 30 dollars on the other IMO.

What a great book. The author has a great grasp of Greek and Roman mythology, astrology, and astronomy, and how these are the undercurrents of the bible. It's amazing this was written in 1830, when there was no instant access to information like today with the internet. This is someone who had to work for this insight. Great explanation of what religious covenants really are, and his chapters on the "secrets" of freemasonary are enlightening. I kept a bible and planisphere (star chart) handy for reference. If you are looking to remove the shackles of orthodox religion, do yourself a favor and read this book. It will be good redemption for Robert Taylor's two prison sentences he served for writing it. I have a few chapters left and can't wait to read it again.
Quite a book - aside from the ranting - which is amusing in a weeklet sermon but not a bok - it is filled with excellent questions and obervations - a real eye opener - the man was clearly extremely well educated and comes to some startling conclusions - i am forced to agree with many of them even though it goes against the grain of all main stream teaching
I ordered 7 books all at once and this was the second one I was planning on reading- the print quality is so poor it is difficult to read, interferes with my enjoyment and understanding of the text and overall ruined the experience. I am sending it back and will order it from a different publisher if I can find it.
