Best first person narrative on the Vietnam War, I have read. It is clearly written by veterans from all branches of the services, sharing their experiences while serving in Vietnam. The author Mr. Bob Babcock, includes stories written by spouses of Vietnam Veterans, the true heroes of this war. The book is well organized from the beginning of the war in 1959 to its tragic end in 1975. Most interesting for me, are the stories by the Veterans who served during my time in Vietnam. It put the war in its proper context and really made the book very personal. "I'm Ready to Talk: Vietnam Vets Preserve Their Stories" is a book about honor, selfless sacrifice and duty written by very brave warriors. It's a book I will easily read many times., and will recommend this well written book to anyone interested in knowing the real story about Vietnam.

"I'm Ready to Talk" is a collection of remembrances of the Vietnam War by people of all branches of the military (and some of their spouses) who were involved in the Vietnam War. The stories are logically organized and provide a vivid portrayal of that war as seen by actual participants or spouses. Bob Babcock (an infantry Vietnam Veteran himself) tells this story in a sensitive, compelling manner. It is an excellent book for those interested in what the Vietnam War was really like, as well as for friends and family members of Vietnam Veterans who want a greater understanding of what their friend or relative experienced. One of the best books out there on the Vietnam War!

Full disclosure: I know many of those writing their stories in this book because we are all members of the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association. Our relationships occurred long after returning from Vietnam duty, so I did not know any of them while serving. I really enjoyed reading these because the stories are real, true and really help me (a US Navy Blue Water Sailor in Vietnam) understand better what my friends in other services went through. The bravery, creativity and realistic approaches to solving problems will entertain and amaze you. Now I know why so many Vietnam Veterans have been so successful in civilian life and military careers. They learned courage and initiative, loyalty and problem solving while winning the Vietnam War. Our politicians gave Vietnam to the Communists after we won. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know what those with "boots on the ground" really experienced.

Short stories by men and wives through the years and phases of Vietnam. Well organized by phase. Easy to pick up and read at any point and gain insight and perspective into the war, feelings and/or events small and large that happened. No BS here, heart felt, stories, not all of them combat related. No pontificating by scholars, historians, etc. just straight talk from real life.
