I keep checking Amazon to see if there is another Murder on Maui mystery ready to read. I was pleased to find this latest book and it was enjoyable as all of the others (I have read them all, twice). An entertaining read to take your mind off of whatever is bothering you. Poe always seems to into situations you are glad you do not have to experience firsthand, though there are some enjoyable moments you want to emulate! When returning to Maui in November with my beautiful wife and I will visit some of the spots described in these books. It will enhance my visit and enjoyment of these books. I felt that much of my first visit to Maui was spent at K-Mart and that memorable spot is also mentioned in the mysteries!
I’m afraid this is the last of the Maui series, I hope I’m wrong. Hence the title.I love ‘Blue Bloods’! I’ve been watching since the beginning. I know all the actors, invested in them. Thoroughly enjoy all the episodes.Robert Stephens characters are well thought out, imbued with personalities that are relatable, and memorable. Just like ‘Blue Bloods’. This series stuck a chord with me.I was stationed on Oahu in Kaneohe before my deployment to Vietnam, and have visited most of the Hawaiian islands on subsequent visits. I live in South Florida, and ate at the Breakers for Christmas one year. Familiar territory as settings for these tales.Don’t miss out!
What makes this series one to follow are the characters.....they are finely etched, they don’t have all the answers and the relationships between them are complicated and evolving over the series. It feels real. The setting had me from the gitgo. Love Maui. Then there is the plot which hooks you early on and meanders until Poe puts the pieces together. You wind up feeling like the characters actually exist, that Harry’s is open for business and that it would be great to grab a drink there.
Poe never fails to get the guy! No matter how convoluted the investigation, he's able to see through everything and make sense of it. And as a bonus, this book has two mysteries for the price of one. One of my favorite series, that just keeps getting better and better. Highly recommend!
Hard to say anything more than the reviews above by Kathleen Fields and Eddie's mom. My wife and I totally enjoy the Poe series and I agree, they get better and better and in this case two for the price of one.The stories are well written with great characters and brings a smile to your face. Well done Mr. Stephens! Look forward to the next story.
