Having read Marckini's first edition of "You Can Beat Prostate Cancer" before my own prostate treatment journey, I found this updated version an expanded approach to a very personal issue for men and the women who love them personal, knowledgable, and navigable. Bob is absolutely right. There are a lot of treatment issues and options available. However, "taking charge of your decision" for prostate cancer treatment is a MUST. Bob's book carefully guides the prospective prostate patient through the many channels and pathways of treatment available today. What's more, Bob has taken time to "update" his original which I found invaluable in re-educating myself about progressing field of prostate cancer research and treatment options. It says a lot when an author "updates" a book like this: it says he's serious about staying current and providing the most helpful information possible, including how to navigate potential health insurance challenges, which provides keen insight and tools to work through the process. Clearly Bob Marckini has "done his homework."As a former Loma Linda University Medical Center proton treatment patient who has also "been there, done that," I want to assure you that Mr. Marckini's detailed description of his experience with learning about proton therapy detailed in his newest book is all he claims. I highly recommend Marckini's book for anyone who wants to get down to basics about prostate cancer treatment options. If I had to do it all over again, I would choose proton treatment in a heartbeat for all the reasons he states. If you're contemplating prostate treatment options, BUY THIS BOOK and READ it!

This book is the follow up to Mr. Marckini’s first book of the same title. The first book was an excellent introduction to what became his final choice for treatment of his prostate cancer. Hecovered the various treatment possibilities with humor and excellent research in order to make that choice. He related the eight week treatment journey and almost made it seem like a holiday! This book however, is a much deeper dive into the various treatments and provides the reader with significantly more scientific information on the various options, but still maintains the readability the average reader interested in learning his options would like.It is my opinion that every doctor should read this book. Doctors have their specialties and whatever treatment they prefer is the best. It occurs to me that they would benefit from the excellent explanations provided by Mr. Marckini if for no other reason than to explain the procedures to their patients in terms that are understandable and quite frankly, less frightening. My husband has now read both books (as have I) but truthfully, this is only the second time I have seen him read a book cover to cover in less than a day in the 50 years we have known each other! He wrote a recommendation but it was not published for an unknown reason. I highly recommend this book.

I was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and began to research treatment options. I am a retired engineer and not afraid of diving into the technical details. I soon became overwhelmed with the bewildering array of choices, the conflicting suggestions of several cancer doctors I visited, and the uncertainty of the type and degree of side affects I would suffer after any of the treatment options. Bob’s book solved that problem for me. His amazingly thorough research and easy to understand discussions clearly laid out all the relevant alternatives with practical and supported evidence describing the pros and cons. His testimonials from many past Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) patients as well as numerous medical experts from around the country, all enthusiastically endorsing PBT’s successful track record, went a long way to help me cement my decision to have PBT in the near future. If you have been recently diagnosed with PC, you will do yourself a great disservice if you do not by this book and read it.

I read Marckini’s first edition and I couldn’t wait to read the second edition. I wasn’t disappointed. Like the first book, this was written in LAYMAN’S language. Easy telling he’s an engineer. His analytical approach to researching each of the treatment options along with their pros and cons was truly revealing. His research was exhaustive, and prostate cancer patients are the beneficiaries of his work. If you’ve been diagnosed with prostate cancer, this is one-stop shopping. Virtually everything you need to know about diagnosis, treatment and the role you, the patient, should play in this process is covered here. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Confirmation that one has prostate cancer can be a difficult experience for anyone. Understanding the various procedures leading up to the diagnosis, comprehending the results, evaluating the treatment options available, and understanding the possible side effects of these treatments can be an overwhelming challenge. I found this book to be invaluable in helping me progress through this maze. Honestly, a friend who had experienced a “concerning” rise in his PSA had found this book, and he opted for the Proton Beam Therapy that resulted in a sharply reduced PSA. He “beat” the cancer with little or no side effects. He offers a copy of Robert Marckini’s book to anyone who is dealing with prostate cancer issues, and he did this for me. It was my first introduction to the thought processes thoroughly discussed in the book, and I have read both editions many times. The guidance, knowledge, and confidence provided by this book are very comforting to me and my family. I now have a supply of the books so that I may pass along Bob’s guidance to anyone I meet who is dealing with similar issues.
