Misleading as the book was talking about the writer’s EX Wife. Can sense the bitterness from his writing especially in the last chapter. Demonized the disorder BPD and has shown no empathy base on how he mentioned in his book how he reacted to his wife when she is in distress and feeling of abandonment. Read this book if your goal is to further trigger and end your relationship with your BPD partner

I loved the intro to this book which got me to buy it, and what a relief to know Im not the only one living with Crazy.Some people heard my story and said that's just like everyone else, and I thought well that isn't right, I shouldn't be treated like her worst enemy one day and be subjected to such harsh abusive language.I found myself spinning in circles trying to make her happy but what I didn't know was there was nothing I could do to make her happy. It has to do with her glasses and how she sees the world.I do not know that the "diagnosis" is right but I know the description fits about 80% in my case.I like the style of this book, a first-hand account rather than a clinical description. When your in the middle of a relationship like this it is very disorienting. It takes relating to others in similar situation to feel some relief that your not crazy, just living in a crazy situation.There is more I've learned a lot about dealing with this in Buddiist study group, might try that to see how your behavior might be sparking hers. Not that ITS ALL YOU, but this helped me.Good Luck

Oh, man. When I saw the one star reviews for this book from those with BDP, I brushed them off. I'm the spouse with BPD, and I know that the truth of this illness is ugly. I wanted a book that could help validate my partner's feelings while giving some facts about BPD in a way that was digestible. I told myself this book is for him, not for me, so my opinion isn't important.This book is a self-serving testimony to how much of an 'all American dude' and 'mighty good husband' Page is (paraphrased quotes from the book). Yes, he went through hell. I also believe many examples show he was just as much in the wrong and even escalated the situation. And we won't even talk about the fact he was sixteen years older and his wife's teacher. Or the fact that he didn't communicate well or act like an adult himself in many of the instances described in these pages.As a person with BPD, I understand that I'm biased. It sucks to have something this serious that isn't curable. It's painful to see experiences through the eyes of someone on the other side, but it's important. However, there are books that do it better and don't make BPD out to be a female-oriented illness, or demonize people with BPD. Page says toward the end of the book that his former wife was the real victim, and I fully agree with him there. This reads like an entitled, arrogant older man took advantage of a very young woman who was struggling with a serious illness. He calls BPD the 'Crazy' and treats it like a separate entity from his former wife, which is incredibly hurtful to all people struggling with mental illness.I'm an author myself, and I take this work seriously. Telling the truth and captivating the reader are vital to what we do. I'm also very aware of how damaging BPD is to the person who suffers from it as well as their family. Still...this is an affront to the craft of writing as well as the BPD community.When I read or review a book that's mostly memoir, like this, I try to see it from the writer's perspective. In this case, not even that can answer for the author's blatant bitterness and bias against BPD.Some of my 'favorite' lines?'If a BP does x, I abso-freaking-lutely will do y, just the way I told them I would. I don't give a rip if they don't think it's fair. They don't have to keep me around it that's too much to accept.''It took me an awful long time for this to sink in, but despite what society has taught me my whole life, it's not my job to go around rescuing all the ladies out there. Most of them are doing just fine on their own.''Men beware. Those delicious homemade cookies ain't free.'Absolutely appalling. I would beg any person with BPD or a partner of a person with BPD to look elsewhere for support and information.

I’ve read every book on BPD. This is the book for those who are or were in a relationship with someone with BPD. Not only does it give you that perspective, but it explains, with great clarity, the experience of those with BPD. Very well written in bite size groupings, it balances those books who demonize borderlines as evil vampires with those who emblazon then with as innocent victims of an unfortunate perfect storm of biological nature and environmental nurture.

It’s very interesting and comforting to read about Roberts experience with his BPD spouse and discover that there really are patterns to this disorder that negatively impact the couple. I was amazed at the overlap between his experience and mine. Many of the incidents shared many of the same details. At the end it made me feel good about my personal decision regarding my marriage.
