Slovenia vs Slovakia live streaming: Preview

Two Group H hopefuls meet in Ljubljana, both, to different degrees, looking to get their campaign back on track.

Slovakia do have five points on the board after March’s triple-header but would have expected so much more.

The Falcons started with successive draws against the group’s two minnows, first 0-0 in Cyprus and then 2-2 at home to Malta.

David Strelec and then Milan Škriniar scoring as they came from two goals down in the latter.

But then, somewhat out of nowhere, Slovakia beat Russia 2-1 at home; Škriniar, again, and Róbert Mak on target at Štadión Antona Malatinského.

Now though, having dropped points against the two lowest-ranked nations, Štefan Tarkovič’s side need to keep pulling out results against the other top-sides.

Since those games, of course, Slovakia have taken part in Euro 2020.

They started with a shock 2-1 victory over Poland, centre-back Škriniar with yet another international goal that proved to be the winner there.

But then, they were beaten 1-0 by Sweden and hammered 5-0 by Spain to exit in the group phase.

Can Slovakia get over that with a win here?

Slovenia meanwhile are looking to qualify for a fourth major tournament after Euro 2000 and the World Cups of 2002 and 2010.

They started this campaign by beating the group’s top-seeds Croatia 1-0 at home; Sandi Lovrić with the winner.

But then, Matjaž Kek’s side slumped to back-to-back loses, 2-1 in Russia and then, embarrassingly, 1-0 in Cyprus.

This leaves them down in fifth place but just three points off the joint-leaders at this early stage.

Will there be a winner in this pivotal fixture at Stadion Stožice?

Prediction: Slovenia 1-1 Slovakia

These two last met in World Cup 2018 qualifying with both fixtures resulting in 1-0 home wins.

Slovakia have never won in Slovenia.
