The Nebraska Cornhuskers and Illinois Fighting Illini meet up in Week 0 at Memorial Stadium (Champaign) in Illinois. Kick off is set for 1:00 p.m. ET and the game will air on FOX. We’re kicking off the college football with Big Ten action as two programs in precarious positions try to get their season started off on the right foot.

Coming off a 3-5 campaign in 2020, Nebraska is looking to garner some positive momentum for head coach Scott Frost, especially after recent news of the program being under investigation by the NCAA. Meanwhile, Illinois is coming off a 2-6 last place season last fall and is seeking a victory in new head coach Bret Bielema’s debut in Champaign.

The Illinois Fighting Illini and the Nebraska Cornhuskers are opening their 2021 seasons against one another at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday at Memorial Stadium. Returning after a rocky 2-6 year, Illinois is aiming to prove that the past does not define them. Likewise, last year was nothing to brag about for Nebraska (3-5), so the squad is looking forward to a new start.

Two last-season offensive stats to keep an eye on: The Fighting Illini were 13th worst when it came to passing yards per game last season, with the team coming up with only 152.9 on average (bottom 91%). The Cornhuskers experienced some struggles of their own as they ranked 14th worst in the nation with respect to passing touchdowns last year, where the team accrued only five (bottom 90%). It's possible one of these Achilles' heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.

The Illinois sideline is surely aware that they're the underdogs in this one. We'll soon see whether they can make the experts look bad.

The Illinois Fighting Illini kick off the Bret Bielema Era on Saturday with a home Big Ten matchup against the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Memorial Stadium. The former Wisconsin and Arkansas coach was hired to replace Lovie Smith, who went 17-39 and never had a winning season in his five years in charge. Nebraska coach Scott Frost also is looking for a positive start as his seat heats up because of his 12-20 mark in three seasons and a looming NCAA investigation. The Illini won last season's matchup 41-23, but it finished last in the West Division at 2-6, while the Huskers placed fifth at 3-5.

Kickoff from Champaign is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
