This book is beautifully written about the tragedy that occurred in Katie's life. The reader goes on the journey through her trials and tribulations, and experiences her life (as well as a reader can) with her. Throughout this book, the reader travels on a tumultuous journey with Katie, while being guided by Dr. Helton who helps explain the psychological aspect of Katie’s life. The guidance from Dr. Helton helps the reader understand more of the situations at hand better, as he also advises the reader on what to do if they need counseling. All around, this book is a great read. A book that points towards hope and also gives the options and advice for those that are in similar situations and need to know where to turn. I believe both the person trying to be released and the counselor trying to help the person be released from this bondage can benefit from this book. The story was very moving coming from the person who experienced these atrocities. The authors tell the story of the struggle for wholeness that so many survivors, and those who love them, will identify with. With 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men being survivors of childhood sexual abuse, we all know and love someone who has experienced this kind of trauma. We can all benefit from the greater understanding this book teaches.
From the AuthorAfter meeting Katie Maurice and hearing her story I knew it needed to be told. Â Almost a year ago she agreed to work with me on a book. Â The work involved numerous meetings, emails and correspondence. Â Honestly, I can say that she is one of the most courageous people I have ever known. Â This book is a moving true story of her life from severe sexual trauma, counseling, a mental institution. Â Four of her counselors were unable to reduce her severe PTSD symptoms. The utilization of EMDR made a real difference in improving and allowing her to reclaim her life.
