I finished this book a few hours ago but the steam on my glasses has only just now faded enough for me to be able to write this review. Yes, it was everything my steamy, sexy time loving, little heart could handle. I fell for Jackson the first time I read Voyeur but I have put him off because I just knew this was going to be one of those that I'll wish I could read for the first time over and over. I wasn't wrong.Jackson has come a long way since Voyeur. Not dealt the best hand in life, but you would never know it. It is impossible to not love him. He is very comfortable in his sexuality and isn't biased when it comes to gender or kink. But while Jackson has always had an open heart and a blasé approach to his love life, there was always one person that he felt more connected to than others. His roommate in college. The only problem, his roommate is straight. But when college kids do what college kids do, things get interesting... until the sun comes up and Jackson is down a best friend. Now, Jackson is going into his first business venture and what do you know... Jake and his fiancé Carina have been called in. Things get really interesting from there.I felt all of the angst with this one. Even with all the sexy time gratification, there is still a true blue love story here. Those are my favorite. So, if you're down with all the hot sex three people could possibly get into then you need to jump on this... then just enjoy what is to come of it. Whoa. Talk about one of the best one-handed reads I've had the extreme pleasure to enjoy. The Lovers is unbelievably sexy. Unbelievably erotic. And extremely well-written. Fiona Cole knows how to turn up the heat while giving us a story that is believable and full of heart. I honestly thought it would just be a very wild m/m/f adventure but I didn't count on the gut-wrenching emotions this kind of arrangement would invoke. And neither did Carina, Jake and Jackson.Jackson. I wanted to find out his story since meeting him in Voyeur. I knew there was so much more behind his 'carefree' exterior. His hidden pain and his past play a huge part in this book. There is a true connection between him and both Carina and Jake right from the start as they embark on this new sexual adventure. And I was immediately caught up in this forbidden kind of triangle and the feelings just below the surface that couldn't be denied. The looks between Jake and Jackson. Their past finding it's way to their present. With Carina in the middle of all the hard-bodied goodness, not knowing just how far this arrangement would take them.I was continually surprised at the turns this book made. I loved that all 3 were strong-willed and determined to find the balance missing in their lives. I didn't foresee how it might all turn out and I was glad of that. The Author does a great job providing the right amount of angst when needed with the ability to get Jake, Carina and Jackson to finally own their feelings and find a way to move forward. I appreciated that she didn't make it easy for her characters and that they all had to dig deep and attempt to figure out a new norm.The sex is off the charts white hot and each and every scene was both necessary and addicting. All 3 needed each other in different ways and their time in and out of the bedroom solidified that. There is also a bit of humor that can only be shared by old friends and lovers and it is perfectly placed.The ending is truly beautiful and I'm happy with the way things turned out. Perhaps the amount of hurt thrown around would decimate most relationships but Carina, Jake and Jackson dig deep to salvage what they all worked so hard to build between each other. Their maturity is what makes this book work so well. They are all business people and even when they don't know what they truly want, they at least try to decipher their feelings as best they can. I really do adore them all with Carina being the hellfire neither man can resist. I loved her spirit and her desire to show up her chauvinistic father. With her penchant for naughty, she is quite the woman.I do hope there is more in this universe of characters. Daniel, as the owner of Voyeur, is a solid force and I want to see more of him. In addition, without giving anything away, my wish is that the 'odd man out' gets their story told next. They deserve to find a bit of happy too.I sincerely love this book and the passion that was a part of every page. Whether it was satisfying or distressing, it simply worked and I'm happy to have the chance to experience it.Cards of Love: The Lovers is the ultimate in tantalizing and heartwarming, which is clearly a combination you don't find everyday. And worthy of a huge 5+ stars!
What I love most about the writing style of Fiona Cole is her ability to pull her readers into the story with her. All of my senses were on high alert while reading the story of Jackson, Carina, and Jake's relationship. It was as if someone had managed to bring all of my blood to lay simmering just beneath my skin! I felt every raw emotion, every caress, every bold declaration, every heated exchange, and every tantalizing kiss.It came as no surprise to me that I felt a connection to Jackson Fields after meeting him in her earlier book entitled Voyeur, but the draw to Jake Wellington and Carina Russo was also intense due to the angsty, forbidden storyline.Like so many first sexual experiences, the feelings between college best friends Jake Wellington and Jackson Fields began with a game of Truth or Dare. Jackson is a confident guy, and has never felt the need to conceal his bi-sexuality. He lives his truth always. Jake, another prideful college man refuses to turn down a dare. When the two are dared to share a lip locking, passionate kiss, Jackson is all too eager to rise to the challenge and far be it from Jake to look weak in front of his peers. When the two friends share a kiss, sparks fly, and emotions run high...leaving Jackson high and dry for the next 5 years when Jake abruptly leaves school.Fast forward 5 years, and Jake Wellington has recently become engaged to his childhood best friend, Carina Russo. The parents of the two have been life long friends given the business partnership between their fathers. The families are looking forward to turning over the reins to Jake and Carina after marriage merges the families. When a business arrangement brings Jackson into the same circle as Jake and Carina, Jackson must deal with his unrequited feelings that have persisted these last 5 years.This story was as much about recognizing real love, as it was about erotica that embraces taboo and forbidden adult relationships. As an added bonus, I'll say that this story did not play out as I suspected that it would. I love that fact! Keep me on my toes and keep me guessing Fiona!While Jackson and Jake are both good men, and are easy to like, Carina is a very relatable heroine.At the heart of this storyline, beats the fear of so many women looking to make a connection with someone...not being enough for the long haul through life. Losing the passion, and spending a lifetime in a luke warm romance with no hope for parole.Make no mistake, Carina Russo is in love with Jake, her fiancé' and best friend. They have fantastic chemistry and can't seem to keep their hands off one another. The opening line to the book demonstrates this. "You up for a quickie in your office over lunch?", asks Jake. Carina and Jake seemingly burn the house down with their insatiable lust for one another in the pages to follow, until something happens that plants doubt in Carina's mind. She decides that in order to keep the home fires burning, that they need to add some spice...a spice named Jackson.What follows after that decision is not only a blazing inferno M/M/F romance, but a well developed storyline that will enthrall you. The only thing that rang true louder than the lust here, was the angst. There were moments where I wondered if anyone would actually get a HEA. I was glued to this one! I honestly had no idea how things were going to go and I was so invested in all of them!! Gah....agony...lol. Fiona makes it hurt so good!If you love forbidden, angsty, taboo reads, I urge you to one-click this one and hand your week-end over to Fiona, Jackson, Jake and Carina. Set the air conditioning on low, because your libido will be on HIGH! Great read, and another hit in my opinion!
