Read Online and Download "If Only I Would Have Known...": What I wish the Librarian would have told me about Language, Literacy, and Dyslexia by Faith Borkowsky. In this three-book series written for parents of preschoolers, reading specialist and award-winning author, Faith Borkowsky, and graphic artist, Sheryl Lynn Rosenstock Marcus, introduce a committed group of professionals in the community who provide a concerned parent with practical advice, specific recommendations, and their perspectives on language, literacy, and dyslexia. In the third and last of these beautifully illustrated graphic plays, parents will gain insight from a fictional librarian about how reading should be taught at the earliest stages of schooling and how explicit phonics instruction and practice with decodable books are crucial for emergent and struggling readers. A great book for parents and librarians alike! Look for all three titles in the "If Only I Would Have Known..." series!

"If Only I Would Have Known...": What I wish the Librarian would have told me about Language, Literacy, and Dyslexia by Faith Borkowsky Review

Libraries are often the first stop for parents of young children, and parents and caregivers of struggling readers. With foundational information about how we learn to read, and what resources help all children in the process of learning to read, librarians can be better resources for more families. This sweet, handy engaging publication should be required reading for all librarians. Sometimes all parents or caregivers need is a little guidance and hope. When a librarian recommends a book or resource that a struggling reader can use to improve their skills, that's an amazing first-step.

This is one of two others books like it. The books are easy to follow for any parent or professional with limited time but I desire to understand the early signs of a struggling reader and how they can help or get help. I found these books to be very digestible. It’s easy to pick up and read small bits, the pics make it easy to find your page and focus on the content without too much text and it works for readers like myself who like to start in the middle of books!

I’m a parent who wishes I knew then what I know now. Every youth librarian should read this book. Parents go to the school and library for help if their kiddos struggle with reading.
