The Colors of Love by F.E. Feeley Jr Review
I enjoyed reading this book but found so much to feel uneasy with. First, David is ending a 20-year marriage due to his wife's infidelity. They don't even discuss it or try to work it out. David just ends it. The same night he moves out he ends up in a man's bed - and never leaves. He readily accepts his bisexuality. Not likely. Also, as he realizes his new sexual preferences, he doesn't even consider sleeping with any other men but Aaron. Again, unlikely. Aaron's PTSD seems glossed over and isn't given much analysis in the story. Again, it's treated as just a matter of fact. However, even with several unlikely scenarios, my biggest criticism of this story is the lack of proofreading. There are so many spelling errors, wrong words placed - or omitted - inappropriately. Every several pages a new error occurs. It's frustrating reading a story and having to stumble through a poorly edited sentence so often. The story is pleasant. There's not much angst. The characters are likable. It's just all a bit bland.
I've read other books that dealt with similar issues facing our veterans, but none with as deft a hand as F.E. Feeley's. His use of color throughout from grays to white all the way through to sapphires and reds to flesh out this beautiful and sometimes uncomfortably honest love story truly tells the story rather than just musing on a theme like something a less adept author might use. It's appropriately steamy when it needs to be, but woven nicely along with the narrative to the point where the sex is a vehicle for the intense love these men have nearly immediately for each other. Aaron and David burn deeply with love for each other, and the intensity and beauty of that comes across almost immediately. No spoilers. Just READ THIS BOOK RIGHT NOW. Now, will someone pass me the damn hankies? Someone was chopping onions.Excellent work.
Although a bit unbelievable, the plot was well constructed. Character development was excellent. Too much sex for my personal taste, but a good story behind the sex.Anyone who likes m/m erotica would like it.
F. E. Feely, Jr. wrote three short novels: Into the Gray, Lighter Shade of Blue, and The Violet Skies of Morning. The trilogy is brought together as this one novel, The Colors of Love. The joining is seamless. There is no obvious break between the stories.The story begins when Aaron and David first meet. There is immediate chemistry. The link unfolds in a very natural and real way. As the story progresses these two men care about each other and love each other. The sex is hot, the love feels real. We are looking at a natural, honest, and realistic love story.I strongly recommend The Colors of Love.
I went through a maelstrom of emotions throughout the story. David's ex really irked me in the first book, but the second one had me seeing red! How dare the audacity of that vile beast! Thankfully she did humanized and grow a few brain cells. I loved that both Aaron and David were willing to take a chance on each other and work on a relationship together. I think it was beyond brave of David to encourage Aaron to go confront his past/Roger. You have to take care of baggage to move on. I was shaking in my boots, but I liked how things turned out. I liked the service dog and PTSD inclusions. It made it all more real. The cold shower with the dog-hilarious!! The wedding scenes were happy, tearful, and memorable. What a beautiful journey the author took us on with this collection of reads. The ending left me with happiness in my heart and a huge smile. The narrator was excellent and brought it all to life. I voluntarily listened to this book and am giving an honest unbiased review. I really can't wait to listen to this again to see what I missed the first time around. Yes, it's that good!!!!
