The Forgotten World (The World Apart Series Book 3) by Robin D. Mahle Review

So much happens in this book, even with the accelerated pace of the story. I still enjoy the quick pace and I feel like the depth of the characters is not sacrificed, but there were elements I wish weren’t so fast. For example, Addie’s work with the amulet. I wish that was more explained as it seemed to happen out of nowhere. I also didn’t enjoy the asides for “the analyst” and “the idealist.” They were too frequent and broke up the flow of the story. Just when I would get into the story it would be interrupted by one of the asides and it completely stole me of the ability to succumb to the story. I did like learning about Gunther’s history, but I didn’t enjoy the asides overall. I also wish that the omnipresent Spectrum could get more screen time. They keep being mentioned and yet we’re no closer to figuring them out. I’m still in love with the story and the characters and I can’t wait to see where we go from here!

Jumping in right where book 2 left off, this book raises the stakes yet again and reveals deeper layers of treachery stretching to the highest levels. This book felt a bit more character driven than the prior two and added quite a bit more depth. Clark and Addie are put in difficult situations - grief and desperation driving them to take actions that may have long term repercussions. This book followed the same story telling style as the previous books where the narrative moves back and forth between Clark and Addie, interspersed with background from other characters, in this book a new character we've only glimpsed and a familiar one we thought we lost. It flows well and the narrative is easy to follow even given this complex story telling style. There is enough information included in this book to jog your memory if it has been a while since you read the previous books, but not quite enough to jump in if you have not read previous books. Plus TONS of SPOILERS if you have not read the previous books, and they are really good :) This is a story that builds and really needs to be read from the beginning. So, if you haven't already, do yourself a favor and read the other two!

As I got closer and closer to the end, I knew it exactly what I wanted to say about The Forgotten World. I had planned to gush how incredible the writing was and how much of an emotional roller coaster this was, only to get to the end and cry (again as I definitely cried in the beginning too).Suddenly, I was speechless and just kept wiping tears from my face because I started to believe before this point that maybe things REALLY were going to end as dismal as it appeared previously.I was so very wrong and it was a huge part of why I cried.Thank you, author, for this moving story! I can say that this story gutted me and spitted me out more than once. Just when things seemed to get better, BAM! Doom and despair all over again for these characters that I love so much. The grief in this story was extremely real and just reached out the page and grabbed me in its clutches. My heart broke for choices made in the past and the choices being made at that moment (ha, and the choices made in the future too if I'm honest). These characters certainly don't do things the easy way, but they are courageous, stubborn, and passionate. (However, I'm honestly about to kidnap them from the author, wrap them in bubble wrap, and hide them somewhere safe!! Never mind any complaints they throw my way. Their safety is of the upmost importance! LOL!)Thankfully, the author was kind and threw in some humorous spots and a SUPER ADORABLE blooming romance!!! (If only I could talk about that because, GAH! FEELSSSSS!!) It definitely helped me cope with the intensity of this story.Overall, a very fantastic continuation of the series! The writing is so on point and pulls you in so deeply. I'm looking forward to an upcoming happy ending and just hugging these guys with fierceness when they can finally be happy just to be happy. <3*(I received an ARC from the author. All thoughts expressed are my own and was not required to write a positive review.)*

Just like the first two books, this one drew me in and kept my attention long past when I should have gone to bed. I love my son, but I was not sad at all for his bedtime because I immediately went to reading this book. What I liked most: We get to see Clark and Addie apart, dealing with their issues separately so I felt they were both able to get over that just in love, always together phase. Not to mention Clark needed the time to deal with what happened at the end of book two. Addie also really came into her own in this book. Not that she was ever weak but she always had a lot of help. Yes, she had allies in BeLa and Killian, but there were many times they couldn't help her and it was her own wit and compassion and forethought that got her out of situations. What I didn't like: Nothing. I mean, aside from the evil ruler who sucked and I cheered when he got what he deserved, this book was great! Go now and read it (well, start with book one if you haven't already)

Oh Gunther!! I loved that we got snippets of his life in this book! As with book 2, the snippets lead us up to the present, but it was so great to have his POV.And BeLa...to be able to have insight into Levelian life since the coupe, was perfect! Especially having the POV if the usurper's daughter helped us see the true power the king amassed. We continue to see the characters grow and change while still staying true to themselves. The events that take place reveal so much about their inner workings and deeper truths, especially for Killian.3 hopes for book 4, which I have not read:-Xav and Nell are a couple and figure out how that works with her being queen-Clark and Addie get some time to regroup/bond as a couple and end up in the same physical place-Gunther and BeLa. Just that. In either place, but working and creating side by side...her experimenting and him tinkering.I mean, the worlds will most-likely not be destroyed, but I think book 4 is going to have some casualties, but I hope the six characters I mentioned above all make it!
