"It's not a restaurant experience, it's a fuel experience."This book is full of pithy memorable lines as it guides you through the author's personal history with fast food as well as global history (I had no idea what the enslaved in ancient Egypt might have eaten). I learned quite a bit about pasta as the author told of his first business making authentic fresh pasta in 1990s England.As someone who has run two small businesses (albeit neither in food) in New York, I found myself nodding in agreement to all the tasks outlined that one must do if one will be in business. I especially appreciated his recommendation that one go work in a restaurant, preferably fast food, even for free, to get hands-on experience in the world.A great read and a must if you are going to go into business.

When you want to start a business you never really think there is so many things that go into the work. I’ve had countless ideas to start a fast food restaurant but have never found the help I needed since I don’t have someone to give me pointers. As I read this book it really helped me find the reasons why and how I could start a food business. It shows the negative and the positive and for a beginner like me, it really shows me a lot. I appreciate the author for being really helpful when it came to the facts and the information that I needed to learn. I love how they also separated it into different places, it allowed me to learn even more in different sections!

The fast food industry may seem massive and impersonal. Even so, this book made it seem like anyone- even someone relatively new to business like myself- had “what it takes” to really start and expand a fast food business. There are so many factors to consider in this process, and it really feels like there’s always something that you’re missing. Winfield walks you through it all. The financials, the history, the insurance, the personnel, and every option you have along the way. If you’re looking for a clear and plain written guide to running a fast food restaurant (and being your own boss!) I’d say this is the book for you.
