Dangerous Engagement (Wedlocked Trilogy Book 1) by Charlotte Byrd Review

I have NEVER written an amazon review before but I felt this book warranted it. The reviews I read spoke of suspense and “I can’t put this book down”. No, put the book down. This is the most vanilla bean, square, lacking intrigue/plot book I have read in a while. I probably read about 75 books a year and I will read books that aren’t well written if the plot is good enough. Not only is the plot lacking everything except character development but the writing was edited quickly and many mistakes are noticeable. I know that the author spent their time and effort writing this but it just falls short and I will not bother reading the other two books. The only reason I gave two stars is that I can tell the author tried but did not give it 100%.

I am not sure what to think about this book. First one in the series and not impressed so far. So much drama. Storyline and characters not sure about either. At first I thought Aurora was an only child...somewhere a much younger sibling shows up. Do arranged marriages even exist in 2020? Let's hope not. Again not impressed. WARNING!!! For anyone interested in Charlotte Byrd books be warned she has been changing book covers on books released previously. I have purchased books because the cover was different and when I started to read them...discovered I already had the book and Amazon will not give your money back after a certain time frame.

The plot had me interested but through the entire book I never connected with the characters, AT ALL. The way it was written was like someone was just telling you the story and what was said, with no emotion to it at all. The only hint of an emotion was the exclamation point at the end of a sentence. It was just flat, not exciting at all. Felt like a person sitting in my living room telling me about something they heard happened to someone else. I felt that way from start to finish with this book and unfortunately it made me not interested in continuing with this series.

Ok this is one of my favorite authors so I was very excited to start this new series but I am 70% in and have been trying to finish for three days! It is soooo boring! I have to believe the other reviews are bogus! Asking for a refund and looking for a new read.

Henry and Aurora start off towards a love story, but don't fall for it because it's greater than that with its secrets, lies and coercion you'll be sucked into their story before you know it. I have a love / hate relationship with cliffhangers. I hate them because I'm a curious person and want to answers now, but on the other hand the suspense is what keeps me coming back for more and this series has just gotten started. Charlotte is a intriguing author and has captured my attention with her all her books.
