Benji and the Wireman by Charlie Winters Review
I have read every single story by this author. His first book Fin & Matt was my favorite. I have read it about 4 times. Nothing could top it for me. Until this one came along. First of all I think I want to marry Jesse, I mean he was my dream man from the beginning. Both main characters are great from beginning to the end. Its really funny at times and emotional and hot at other times. I can't recommend this book enough. If you want a really sweet story with hot moments and real life situations that we all deal with then I'm telling you to read this.
I wasn’t sure what to expect but I bought the book due to the cover and title. I was pleasantly surprised at how the story grabbed and held my attention. Almost any LGBT individual can relate to at least some part of the story. It is a story of love and well worth a read. I’m looking forward to reading more of this author’s work.
This was a fun, sweet and heartwarming read. Ben has never found someone who can truly appreciate him for who he is - an over the top, talkative, excitable and flamboyant guy. They say they do to start with but end up trying to change him, smothering his exuberance and casting blows to his self esteem. Jesse has usually goes for the more brawny guys when he looks for a partner, but ends up finding them boring and shallow - he has never been attracted to someone with Ben's physical appearance or personality. When Jesse and Ben meet, sparks fly. This is definitely an insta-love story - love is professed within 2 weeks, and they move in together not long after. But when you know, you know!I did struggle at times with both Ben and Jesse and some of their actions. Ben's over the top rambling almost got too much at times, but didn't quite tip me over my limit (did come very close a few times though!). Ben needed someone to prove they were in it for the long haul, but was also jaded to tended to either push people away or run as they started getting close. After so many years of being told to change parts od himself, he couldn't trust that Jesse actually wanted to be with him long term. Therefore, he never gave Jesse a chance before trying to push him away. Jesse then worried me q few times when he didnt seem to respect Ben's wishes and didnt listen to what Ben was asking for. I can see the author was trying to show that Jesse saw through what Ben was trying to do, and wanted to prove he was there for Ben so turned up even when Ben said not to. Thing is, they'd only known each other a few days at that stage, so it was very pushy and aggressive for Jesse to do that. Maybe in a longer relationship that would work, but it came across a little wrong given they'd known each other such a short time and hadn't even agreed to date at that point. I found a lot of their actions more commensurate with a couple who had been dating several months rather than days.Still a fun read, and the ending was sweet as well.
I haven't read anything by this author before, but I can't wait to read more! I loved this book! Ben was such a great character and his parents and Oma were as well. Ben's personality was so strong and it was easy to see how Jesse could be attracted to him so quickly. I loved the way the relationship developed between the two of them and how Jesse's personality supported Ben and how he realized how much Ben needed him, even as he pushed Jesse away. There were some times when I got teary, but overall this was low angst and left me with a huge grin on my face. I can't recommend this book enough!
Benji and the Wireman was steamy and sweet as candy. Loved the characters so much, especially Benji in all is neurotic behavior. Jessie was the right person for him. I hope to find my person one day also.
