Putting the Pieces Together: A Modern Native American Coming-of-Age Novella (Growing Roots Book 4) by Chelsea Falin Review
This is the fourth book in a series about Willie, Spike, and their friends. In this book, they lose a close friend which causes Spike to suffer PTSD and the after-effects of grief and loss. His grief recovery influences their budding relationship and it is unknown where it will go. The story is well-written and follows Willie (a girl) and Spike's alternating perspectives. While it is engaging and holds the reader's interest, I did find it confusing at times, but it is the fourth book in a series.
Putting the Pieces Together (The Growing Roots Series Book 4) by Chelsea Faline is a touching book. My heart was immediately struck within the first chapter when I read, “The group of friends I’d grown so close to, the ones who had made high school bearable, wouldn’t be there anymore," as my own teenager is currently dealing with sadness from having recently changed high schools. From this chapter on, I read the book while trying to remember what it was like to be a teenager. I walked away grateful for the insight. I am giving this book four stars for its beautifully vivid and descriptive style and its delicate way of sharing what it feels like to navigate through sadness.
