Magic High by Christina G Gaudet Review

A bit confusing as the story gets started and I had a difficult time getting the know the characters. I've always liked teen witch type stories, but this one just didn't hold my attention. It was dull and uninteresting.

Growing up a teenage witch is hard. Growing up a teenage witch with powers attached to your emotions is even harder. Now, throw in an all-magic high school now letting in non-magic students, and life gets even harder. This is the premise behind the Magic High by Christina G. Gaudet. Tabetha Long is a normal high school girl, well minus being a witch. She worries about fitting, struggles to meet boys and wants to spend all of her time with her best friends.Tabetha has always had it a bit tougher than her witchy friends. After all, her mother is a "normie" and the high school's new Gym teacher. Her dad, well he left to be on a reality TV show. A show that regularly exposes magic while Tabetha and her friends struggle to keep their magic under wraps. Suddenly, Tabetha finds herself at war with her best friend over the attention of the cute, new boy, Eric. Then, her dad returns, intent on turning her school into a TV set.I completely enjoyed Gaudet's take on the life of a teenage witch. Her story read as part Bewitched, part Sweet Valley High, with just a dash of Harry Potter. It was a unique and memorable blend of paranormal themes, into a story that was great fun to read. I have to admit that I am a sucker for teenage melodramas in the vein of Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill and Gaudet's tale has the same fun, easy-breezy style while still tackling the real issues.Tabetha is ultra-likeable, even when her magic is making her do crazy things. Anyone who has every been a teenage girl, in love with the wrong boy, struggling to keep your friendships together, while staying true to yourself and your best friends will find something to love about this story. I, also, recommend it as a read for teenage girls everywhere. Like Patti Larsen's Hayle Coven Series this book celebrates the good girl, and what makes us all a little different.Let's give more power to these books.Gaudet's Magic High was a delight and a quick read.Disclaimer: I was gifted a copy of this book for review, however all opinons are my own.

High school is never easy, but imagine going to an all magic school and suddenly finding out that "normies," non magic folk, will be populating the school soon due to an unforeseen shut down of their own facility? Imagine being forced to hide who you are after not having to do so for years? Now wrap that up into your worst year of high school, and you've got Magic High. With a little bit of romance, some botched up spells, and lots of humorous situations, Magic High is a cute and enjoyable read complete with magic and ghosts. I absolutely loved Tabetha's voice and the way she carries herself throughout the entire novel. She’s just a little bit quirky and snarky, and the perfect narrator for this fun read, especially when it comes to the drama of high school.I really enjoyed this, especially the ghost aspect. I had an inkling from the get-go, but until it was 100% revealed, I wasn't sure. Gaudet does a great job foreshadowing by not overdoing it, leaving enough mystery and anticipation there for readers to enjoy while creating an intriguing read that will bring a smile to your face long after it’s done. I really enjoyed this novel and highly suggest both MG and YA readers scoop it up.

I loved this book! What an original twist on a witchy idea... I felt like the normies were out of place in Tab's world. Imagine your high school, full of everything magical, being invaded by kids who have no clue and no power of their own. Throw in a reality show with your absent dad in the mix and a delicious guy who's not quite right... and you have a bubbling cauldron of YA trouble. Excellent debut book I 'highly' (no pun intended) recommend.

This is a fun start to a promising series. Something like a mix between Glee without the music , Harry Potter without Voldemort, and Princess Diaries without the crown.
