Rainbow Stew by Cathryn Falwell Review
Nice story about hanging out with grandpa and making stew from veggies picked in the garden. I loved the images more than the story itself. I got this book to encourage eating rainbow colors in each meal (very healthy if natural colors ;-) ). I also liked that this book was not the same ethnicity as my family - diversity is the only reality so i want my children to growing up seeing lots of people in books not just their mirror reflection.
A great book for reading about colors and encouraging your child to eat more vegetables at the same time -- the recipe at the end is a particularly terrific touch that I'm planning to try with my daughter once she's ready to start early play cooking. An easy comfortable read -- fun rhyming and the simple storyline (it's raining, they can't play outside! their grandfather bundles the kids into raincoats and they go pick vegetables in his garden and make a stew together) is easy to follow and satisfying for my 2.5-year-old. She read this one six times the day we got it and has been returning to it regularly since, which marks a keeper.
I am a preschool teacher. This book is what I use when we are getting ready to make stone soup or a cooking project. Great pictures. Great storey.
This story is delightful! We found it at our local library and have since bought copies for ourselves and others! A sweet book about grandpa and grandkids gardening and cooking together. Really lovely!
One of my favorite books to read to my preschool students about vegetables. The vivid illustrations are beautiful and I love that the text rhymes. Definitely a must have for any class!
