The Little Unicorn Chu ( Loving bedtime stories for children ) (Unicorn Kids Bedtime Stories Book 1) by Cerrie Davies Review

The Little Unicorn Chu is formatted to be read in landscape mode (holding your device horizontally), where it takes up the entire screen. Words and pictures display on separate screens, although there are a lot more just words pages than illustration ones. But the text, although the font is cursive writing so may be a fair bit harder to read for kids learning to read, is together on the one page like a traditional book page. A lot of self published Kindle authors can't be bothered to format their work and it displays like a mess with bits of text on one page and an image on a small part of the screen on another, so I always like to take the time to point out when authors care about their reader's experience and their own work enough to take the time to format it.Basically a unicorn deals with the topic of stranger danger when it is offered candy by a stranger and told there is more of it at the strangers house. It of course is happy to go with the stranger. So it's a good way to introduce a conversation, although the stranger has been drawn with a black mane and scary face (all other unicorns are colourful) so doesn't re-enforce that most abductors look like regular people (or unicorns in this case). Nor that they of course are often female.

This is a cute tale about a unicorn who is friendly and obedient, except for the fact he allows himself to get so immersed in an activity that Chu doesn’t hear what others are saying. Chu is playing outside his kindergarten class one day and his mother is late picking him up from school. An adult unicorn comes along and offers Chu his favorite kind of candy bar, then suggests that Chu walk with him. Chu’s teacher notices the stranger just in time and calls Chu back to the schoolhouse. Chu finally realizes how he put himself in danger. He learns to be a more careful listener.This tale is written in rhyme with simple and colorful illustrations. Perhaps it goes on a little bit longer than necessary, but it is a good way to explain the danger of talking to strangers to preschoolers. Highly recommended to parents and teachers.

This is a wonderful book that shows an important issue on a level that the little ones will understand how important it is. it shows that children should not talk to strangers. If I was still at the grade school library, I would read this to all twenty classes. This is also A conversation starter book. Oh the conversations we would have had. If you have not read the book, here is what it is about. Chu is a good boy and a unicorn. He cleans his room and puts away his toys. He does not always listen, though. He likes to dance. And dance. And dance. A stranger came for Chu at her preschool. What did she do? Did she go with him? I found this book on a website for free for an honest review.

It has oodles of traditional stories, rhymes and childrens songs. My Granddaughters love it! Yes, it's true, some of the content is no longer politically correct, but I figure I can just substitute kinder words until the little ones can read it themselves. Then Grandma will need to explain, lol. All in all, love this book, especially at this price!

This short book for children 4 to 5 is in the landscape mode so it is read horizontally instead of vertically.Cute little story for bedtime with important messages...Don't talk to strangers and always listen to your Mom. Never to early to hear these lessons.Highly recommended.
