The Man in the Box by Christina G. Gaudet Review
I dont care enough about the characters to want to read the next in the series. The title is intriguing but misleading. Sure there is a man in a box, but the story never tells you how he got there, or why hes there with no hint of where this is leading. The author wasted my time in this purchase, its like reading the rough draft submitted by an 8th grader. Full of mistakes. I felt as if I should have had a red pen. Dont read.
This book was an interesting take on sorceresses, witches, and wizards. It had plenty of action and a little touch of romance. Two things I really like were the author's description of magic and the perspectives from which the story was told. Both Lou and Al's perspectives were used, allowing the reader to get to know each character better. However, I felt like the story ended quickly with little closure. It also ended with a cliffhanger.
At first intriguing this story all too quickly led the reader into a why there is a tiny man in a box. But he doesn’t stay tiny for long.Fantasy, sci-fi, witches snd demons take the reader into a sideways world in another dimension to pursue old enemies and new creepy characters.Almost a YA story but not quite PG as the young woman discovers her crush on the man from the box. Again a story of siblings vying for power in the family and now in this odd situation-lies and family secrets come to light.Not bad writing just a bit too full of chatty teens with bad grammar set into an odd historical magical sideways reality.
This is a quick intriguing story with magic, parallel planes, teens, and bad guys. The tale is a little choppy; however, fans of young people with magic powers will like this tale which is geared toward young adults.I was left needing more of the story to feel complete. I would wait until I had entire series before starting to read this.
This read was unique, which I love. So kudos to the author for writing something new. However, the dialogue didn't feel real and while the story was ok, it didn't flow very well. It was great for the price- free, but I probably wouldn't invest any real money in purchasing it or any of the series.
