For a generation starving for authenticity and tangible hope, Cavanaugh offers his whole heart and practical applications of the truth he’s learned and cleaves to daily.The inclusion of Cavanaugh’s brilliantly funny and insightful video content inside each chapter makes reading this book a completely unique experience for each person. The reader actually feels as if he is getting face-time with the author. By the end of the book, I felt like I’d just spent quality time with a trustworthy, new friend. This book is obviously a work of love with personal touches like handwritten prayers for the reader at the end of each chapter.Cavanaugh speaks to some rarely addressed, “hard†issues with conviction, yet the reader never feels attacked or minimized because Cavanaugh clearly loves his readers and protects their hearts. If you wrestle with understanding your identity or are frustrated that you just can’t let go of resentments against people or God, Cavanaugh gently walks with you through his own questions to help you discover answers to yours. For me, the characteristic that sets a nonfiction apart is the honesty the author is willing ot have with his readers. Cavanaugh James absolutley nailed this factor. I don't want to tell you much about his topics, because I really want you to buy this and let it speak for itself. But this book brings a lot of truth about doubts, struggles, temptations, and finding the One who is bigger than all of those things and letting Him have your life. And where there is truth there is power. Please, if you have ever had anything to do with the Christian faith or ever even wondred or had doubts about what these weirdos called Christians are about, please please please pick up this book. Cavanaugh James's writing style is unique, funny, approachable, and highly conversational, so even if reading isn't your thing, this'll be a good time for you. I couldd say tons more thing, but instea I'll just say this: buy this book and let it change you.
I don't have a ton of free time to read, so when I do, I want it to be worth my time. This book is REALLY, (like really) good! I found myself making time to read it because it was such a good book! It's authentic, funny and so engaging! I would recommend buying it, and a few extra copies because once you read, you'll think of several others you want to pass it on to right away!Do yourself a favor, buy this book!
Cavanaugh James does an awesome job of not only speaking to his generation but crosses over to speak to all generations. I was refreshed by his honesty and vulnerability. I also enjoyed the video clips that helped to reinforce the message he was trying to communicate. I haven't read a book yet that is so interactive. I highly recommend this book.
This was such a timely word that I needed to hear. I was challenged in every single chapter! Would definitely recommend to all millennials, “churched†or “un-churched.â€
