Oh, Teddy. My sweet, sweet Teddy. I want to squish him in a giant hug. And maybe Connor too for writing such a hilarious, poignant story.But I also want to shake Connor and ask him WHY, FOR THE LOVE OF JEEBUS, DID YOU HAVE TO TEAR ME APART IN THE FIRST CHAPTER????I digress...I loved the concept of Camp Diversity and the unique way campers were sorted into cabins (by sexuality) to prevent any shenanigans. This process wasn't fool-proof as the reader learns.Teddy's cabinmates were an absolute pleasure and added just the right balance to Teddy and Travis.There's Rufus, the joyful, friendly asexual:"I mean, sexual fantasies are awesome...but contemplating actually having sex is just not that appealing."Chastity, the snarky, cynical (but caring underneath all that superficial barbed wire) bff:"I'm allergic to happiness, not fun."And then there's Travis, the unexpected (at least to Teddy) love interest.He was hot. He was gay. He couldn't see me eating a candy bar.I was overjoyed when Teddy finally saw his worth and let himself just be with Travis.He was a hot guy and I was...Teddy.Oh, but Teddy, that's what makes you perfect.Of course, Connor had to tear me apart again with one of the most perfect, tender lines I've ever read:He was beautiful in the ways that mattered.So are you, Teddy.
I. Loved. This. Book! If I was ever going to sit down and hug a book after reading it, this would be the one. It's the perfect funny, feel good book -- but not in a too fluffy or obnoxious way.I picked the right time of year to read it, since it takes place at a summer camp. The author described it all so perfectly. I felt like I was right there...feeling the mosquitos buzzing around, rolling my eyes at the cheesy camp counselors, and sneaking out at night to see my summer crush by the lake.So the story is about Teddy, who goes to a LGBTQ+ performing arts summer camp. He meets new friends... and maybe...possibly a new love? It's charming and hilarious, yet also very emotional at times.It's also about the labels we put on people, and the courage it takes to look past those to see the real person. It's about friendship, acceptance, and love."A lot of things make life worthwhile, but true friendship is at the very top of the list of things."Needless to say, reading this story was incredibly nostalgic for me. It brought so many feelings right to the surface, and I enjoyed every second of it.Take a chance on this one. You will be SO happy you did. I'm sure of it.
Funny heartwarming story. I love a book that makes me belly laugh and this is one of those. Puts you in the shoes of someone you knew or maybe you knew of or perhaps it was you. Teenage story of understanding the misconceptions we tend to throw on ourselves. Another well written book by Chase Connor.
Possible spoiler ahead,This story is about loving yourself and understanding you are worthy to be loved. And what better sweeter truth is there to tell. Being a true romantic I felt the relationship or fling cane a bit too late in the story since I didn’t get enough time to aww in it enough. But hey that’s just me!
This book was truly sweet with some great life lessons!
