Trail of Echoes: A Detective Elouise Norton Novel by Rachel Howzell Hall Review
This one deserves ten stars! Rachel, you did it again. Det. Lou Norton is one bad sistah and any police department would give her a promotion after solving these murders.I can't give away the story, no spoilers in my reviews, but from the very beginning, I did not suspect the killer. I was 95% through before I figured it out.There were so many parts of the character, Lou Norton, that were exposed in this book. Three books in, readers have gotten to know the main character, pretty well. We know her family, her friends and her co-worker cops. Readers get to know her even better.And what a great protagonist, the author has created in Lou...you want to cheer her on and keep her safe from harm. Rachel's storylines are so full of realism and suspense.I am hooked on this author's work, from her very first release. Please give us more!Excellent read. Great writing skills.
Hall continues to masterfully develop the character of homicide detective Lou Norton. The two previous novels were very good, but this one surpasses them by a great deal. As far as the plot is concerned, Hall throws enough red herrings to keep you in suspense as to the identity of the killer until the very end. But along the way, we see the personal difficulties being faced by her protagonist. It's an unusual perspective, as I don't think that anyone else has written about the life of an African-American female homicide detective. Lots of insights there for those of us who lack perspective on her situation. And on a personal note, I got a few flashbacks to my childhood as Hall mentioned areas around where I grew up, many many years in the past.
I’ve enjoyed the Detective Eloise Norton series and Trail of Echoes continued the ride. Great to see a strong, Black female lead. The storyline was suspenseful and had solid twists and turns. Can’t wait for the next book in this series!
I read the two previous books in this series and knew that I had to read this one as well. It did not disappoint! Rachel Howzell Hall created quite the character in Lou and this book shows more of her relationships with her friends and her learning to trust and truly let go of some pieces of her past. This was a great read!
I love Detective Norton. U fortunately, the killer was obvious in this one. He practically wrote it in the sky. The ending was terrible too. It left nothing but dangling ends. I hope the next one is better.
