Read Online and Download Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill: Volume 1 by Ren Eguchi. Mukouda Tsuyoshi was nothing special in modern Japan, so when he was summoned to a world of swordplay and sorcery, he thought he was ready for the adventure of a lifetime. Too bad the kingdom that summoned him only got him by mistake! Not only was he not one of the three summoned heroes, but his stats were laughable compared to theirs. On top of that, there's something really sketchy about this kingdom... "Ah, these people are the kind to try and use the Hero," he realized, and immediately left to make his own way in this other world. The only thing Mukouda can rely on is his unique skill: the "Online Supermarket," a skill that allows him to buy modern goods in a fantasy world. It's useless for combat, but if he plays his cards right, he could lead a comfortable life, maybe? At least, that's what Mukouda thinks, but it turns out modern food bought with this skill has some absurd effects! What happens when Mukouda introduces ridiculously tasty modern cooking to a fantasy world like this? He gets some ridiculous repeat customers begging for more...!

Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill: Volume 1 by Ren Eguchi Review

Salaryman with a love for cooking is accidentally summoned to another world with the skill to buy/summon stuff from Earth. Realizing his summoners are a bit fishy, he leaves for better pastures. What follows is his trip. The story was a bit dissapointing for me. The mc is not op, but his companions are. The fact that cooking takes a central role was as expacted. Both are no issue in itself. I like other series with simular premises. The dissapointment was the overly cowardly and whimpering behavior of the mc. Over the top behavior is a common trope in light novels, this just happens to be a perssonality I dislike. Finally, nothing interesting happens. Not my type of story...

They rehash the same thing over and over again. The main character is so cowardly that it becomes so frustrating that I wanted to strangle him. Most of the characters are unremarkable at best annoying at worst. The plot like the characters was unremarkable and borring.

Tends to sometimes read more like a cooking show set in an Isekai environment, but wasn't so bad it wasn't still quite enjoyable. I did really like the idea that the main character was an accidental tagalong and such and the fact that he doesn't fall into many of the regular tropes and the goddesses were fairly fun and if not truly unique at least had quirks all their own, but the constant cooking took too much away from character development and world development.I don't want to just delve into my issues with the book as they weren't enough to stop me reading the book and even the next 2 books in the series, but feel that a warning is advised along with an explanation of my issues as others may not share them.If it was all about cooking with the Isekai just as a background aspect setting the mood, environment, and limitations on what cooking I wouldn't have been interested at all, but it would have felt true-er to the author's seeming intent/interest. Otherwise I'd rather it have scaled back more or left the actual detailed recipies including prep and such for an appendix or something as it felt a bit schizophrenic as is and it completely took you out of the world so much time was actually invested in crafting. Since it's about food it wasn't bad it just it often devolved fully into cookbook/cooking shows which often involved re-describing the ingredients and reason for the chosen dish that was already explained when the main character gathered the ingredients. Often not satisfied with just 1 dish or even menu for a single meal and even a need for multiple versions of the same dish in a meal for no reason and doing different versions often even when deciding to make a meal he'd done before for no real reason. It also doesn't do more than barely hint at an overall story plot or giving the main character an actual goal or idea of what he was going to do with his new "life". It abandoned as basically inconsequential and faulty the supposed reason for being summoned and yet replaces it with nothing. The problem here is that it doesn't provide much to ensure someone would want to continue to the next book because it sets itself up as "anything after will be more of the same" and as something of a spoiler, the next book certainly is. The 3rd starts hinting at more, but does it in a haphazard and disjointed way without time to actually invest in the idea since it comes from a different perspective. Still will give book 4 a try myself, but it'll need something more soon.

Mukouda Tsuyoshi is a 30-something salary man that was accidentally summoned to another world. Unfortunately, the only skill he picked up is "Online Supermarket" and he has weak stats when compared to his fellow isekai travelers (of course they are high school students with OP stats and special skills). He notices the opulence of the royal family when they stated they were poor and on the brink of destruction by the demon lord. Mukouda quickly realizes that this was a bad summon. He made his case that he was an accident and will promptly leave once he is given some provisions.Overall:This is one those series that tries to subvert the isekai trope (similar to Konosuba). The main objective of the MC is trying to survive and see the world (since he cannot return) by going at his own pace. This is not an action packed isekai story, but a cooking journey with points of action and comedy. The MC is cowardly (subverts the trope), has a useless skill (again subverts the trope), doesn't have any battle skills (subverts the trope), tries to leave the kingdom that summoned him (subverts the trope), while doing it all on his own (initially, but still subverts the trope). We are looking at the world from Mukouda's POV.Personal Thoughts (###SPOILERS###)- Mukouda's "Online Supermarket" is the best skill for a merchant along with his item box. Imagine getting today's items during the equivalent of medieval Europe.-It is obvious that food from Mukouda's "Online Supermarket" raises stats. He should at least keep a notebook on which items can boost what and by how much.-Although it doesn't really say, the spices and vegetables that Mukouda uses probably have experience boosting properties.-My favorite part of the story involve the goddess of wind, Ninrir. Her blessing for sweets contract is hilarious!

If you're into descriptive imagery, excellent grammar/spelling, and characters with common sense, this is the book for you!Unfortunately, that is all you will be getting. There's no character growth, or conflict. The MC is accidentally pulled into another realm, makes his excuses to leave and ... keeps going. He makes food, learns about the world, makes food, acquires a familiar who loves his cooking, makes food, visits a town or two, makes food, gains a blessing from a food-obsessed goddess, did I mention he makes food?In retrospect, the title does say it all. But I was expecting something more along the lines of 'Death March in a Parallel World Rhapsody', where food creation is part of the story. This story is more about different dishes and how tasty they are ... and a few side characters do all the conflict.
