Singing the Sadness (Joe Sixsmith, Book 4) by Reginald Hill Review
I have read Book 3 and 4 in this series each in one day. Hard to put down. Joe Sixsmith is funny and just really awesome. I know no one like Joe actually exists but I like to pretend it is possible! I am about to read Book 5 and will be sad when the series ends. However I am also in the middle of Mr. Hill's other Pascoe and Dalziel series so all is not lost. Highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a little mystery and an unlikely but loveable protaganist like Joe.
I adore Reginald Hill and especially his Dalziel & Pasco detective series (absolutely wonderful) I read Singing the Sadness some time ago, and recall that I was a little disappointed. Hill cannot write a bad character, but this one seemed to lack of the energy and the sort of depth of field that characterize his other novels. If you need a book at hand, by all means read this one, but know that he can do better,Do read Reginald Hall (who wrote other great mysteries besides the series) as well and mourn with me that Mr. Hill passed away last year.
Glad I was reading it on an ebook. Looked up some words and expressions. So much american I was sure the author was from the US. But no he’s true British.
Reginald Hill never fails to deliver. Written in one locale may not appeal to every reader but Mr. Hill knows his Welsh people. Joe Sixsmith never fails to please.
As always RH is a wonderfull story teller. Never short changes or lets one down in story or the thrills.
