Millennium Thoth Tarot by Renata Lechner Review
It’s an ok deck, the card stock is the standard glossy (Sorta stuck together at first but easily enough gently pulled apart)It’s kind of a combo of RWS & Thoth, which is great for those who are used to only RWS, and maybe want to venture into reading Thoth Tarot. But it’s pretty monotonous. The minors are nicer in a regular Thoth deck being what I would call more of a pip version but with more of a pop on the original Thoth deck. The artwork is nice, but still it isn’t as nice the original to me. I’ll use it here and there but I probably will always reach for my original Thoth decks before this one.As I said for someone going from RWS to Thoth it should be a conversion deck so to speak. But I just can’t help but find the majors being.... really cheesy!!! And that’s so not how a Thoth deck is! The art is magnificent in most Thoth decks. Especially the original we mainly all love. However to each their own! I’m a deck collector/hoarder lol so it’ll get put up! And I’ll reach for it when it calls for me to! I posted a few pics just to give an idea of what ya get. And the LWB- standard Lo Scarabeo booklet. So it’s not as thick as it looks unless you speak all of the languages in it! Which is just repetitive! Ehhh 3 stars for me. I’ve seen worse! But I have also seen much nicer. It all comes down to personal preference
Horribly disappointed. The cards are cheap. I've had them less than a week and some are already chipping and peeling. Aside from that even if they invested in decent paper stock to put them on, this is not the Thoth deck. There is so much symbolism inherent to this deck the new maker just discarded. It's an ok corny deck for someone who is a beginner, but this is not the Thoth deck the original maker, Crowley, intended. I will still only use my original Thoth deck, as this one is just lifeless computer generated animations with massive amounts of symbolism lost. I wont be using this deck as a professional reader for clients, but given it says it's a Thoth deck it's still part of the collection. If you're a beginner its ok, if you were looking for the original Thoth cards in this deck, you will be disappointed.
I really don't understand why this deck has so many negative reviews. This is a beautiful rendition of the original Thoth deck, and I dare say, I prefer this modern version. The artist went above and beyond in her artistic capabilities. The cardstock is nice and sturdy, albeit glossy as all get out - matte would have been a better option. The only qualm I have with my particular deck is that the box insert must have come away from the adhesive applied during production, causing a loose piece (see pictures). Nothing a little super glue won't fix, but I haven't ever had that happen with a deck before. That's on Lo Scarabeo. I'm still giving it 5 stars because it is an amazing deck. The colors are rich and vibrant. Renata Lechner was true to the original Thoth while also taking some different artistic liberties. It's truly perfect for this Millennium. One of my favorite decks now.
Being a traditional Thoth reader, I find this particular Deck less inspirational. The artwork on some of the cards is absolutely beautiful but it some cards lack for me that archetypal depth . However a friend did recommend it and she absolutely loved it so get it and you be the judge.
About half of the symbolism of the original Thoth deck has been removed and it's replaced with cheesy computer generated images. The key word disruptors on the suits have been removed. Most of the images are a bit off center which I can't stand. The fool is just standing there with zero movement. I could go on and on. Don't buy it. Get the original
