Tom Clancy's The Division: Broken Dawn by Alex Irvine Review

Author Alex Irvine delivers an exceptional page turner with characters from Tom Clancy's The Division (Massive Entertainment) (Ubisoft). It is with great hope that he continues to write more books regarding this awesome franchise. If you like The Division video games, and are interested in reading some of the back story and side stories that go with the game, then this book will keep you engaged. The book primarily brings greater context to what is happening in the game in a real life scenario/depiction. There are a few good action chapters/scenes, but that is not the focus here. I think there is a lot more that can be developed with the novel series, so it is my hope that Ubisoft authorizes more franchise novels. Besides the hope for more, I highly recommend this book for anyone who is a Tom Clancy's: The Division fan and likes everything that has to do with the game. The author gives multiple perspectives of what is taking place in this "reality", and ties some of the events from both games, but in a way that expands more of the plot. What I like about the books most of all, is that it transports you into what I would call The Division universe, to make the game more real so to speak. It's definitely a nice addition to the game, but most importantly it develops the plot as a post apocalyptic thriller, and unique in its own right.

I’m usually pretty encouraging and positive when art is concerned but this isn’t a matter of taste. I read Alex Irvine’s first Division book New York Collapse and really liked it. Thoughtful, planned, good character development, fit with the story in the video game, lots to love. Those elements are what, in my opinion, are missing in this book. The whole book felt like a first chapter, character distinction is minimal and spoken directly not implied by actions. Being written from an omniscient narrator perspective only further irritates the rash as it hampers character depth further. The amount of action in the story could easily equal a 1200 page novel if developed fully. The deepest cut came at the ending though, where I can only assume the writers wife suggested they go to a nice steak dinner out and he cellophane taped a closed sign on the shop door, mashed the throttle on the story pace and turned off the creativity spigot synchronously. Hoping to finish typing and catch an auto-save before Windows shut down completely is the feeling I was left with. ***[Spoilers, Here be dragons, Spoilers!!!], The main character is left bleeding out, the co-protagonist is left MIA, status unconfirmed and the children almost vanish in to thin air. Now, there may be constrictions placed by the game creative department but that doesn’t excuse the shallow characters and lack of ambience. I’d love to love this book like I did the first it just didn’t come close to earning it.

It's better than most game fiction I've read. A story about traveling across the ruins of America and encountering some of the survivors who have reverted back to the 19th century in the wake of the Dollar Flu. We also get some hints that there's a big Illuminati-conspiracy going on versus one crazy lunatic with a DNA printer (which is a bit of a shame as I found that original). Characters were likable too.

I enjoyed the quick read. Nice build into a video game world. Different takes from civilian to multiple agents. The author respected the lore and Tom Clancy with heroic characters. I would appreciate more stories from other states. Sheriff or boy scout take. Perhaps give a agent a dog or horses

I really loved this book. The author really did his research. Im an avid game player of both divisions 1 and 2 and this author hit them both dead on. If you like The division you'll love this book. If you ve never played The Division video games.. this book might cause you to want to play them.. Please right a sequel.
