Pancakes and Poison (A Traveling Town Mystery Book 1) by Ami Diane Review

I wish the author had made more use of it, especially in dealing with historical differences. I would have liked a few more distinctly different characters playing bigger roles. That said though, the characters are interesting and fun to hang out with. And I remain intrigued by the town's travels One thing I did notice was that a lot of the reviews stress how funny this novel is. There certainly is humor both in the writing and the characters, but I would not describe this as primarily a comic novel. Witty, maybe.

This book was described as a time traveling town with the 1st location, the 1950s. However, the setting is nothing of the sort. Hitching posts. Cowboys. Everything dates from the 1850s to (as the book goes on) to the 1990s. That's before the boring, underwhelming "heroine," Ella falls into Keystone Village. She's too dumb to notice much except that it's kind of a weird place. The author never develops the main character. Seems the writer is trying hard to put together a Jana Deleon "Ida Belle and Gertie" team while Ella is sort of Stephanie Plum. A total failure at both.The book contains many typos. And the description on Amazon is misleading. A total disappointment. Skip this series.

This story was amazing. I couldn't figure it out at first, but the more I read the quirkier it became. This was about a city that time jumped. They never knew when or in what time period they would wind up in. Very now and then, a new person would wind up in the town, then get stuck there forever when the next jump came along. I enjoyed the town's people and the friendship they extended to any new comer. There was mystery involved with a murder of a young woman, that finally got solved. Come along and find out about this time jumping town and it's people. You'll enjoy figuring out the murder and getting to know the people who live there!

This is a unique, great entertaining story I have to say I could not put down. It's a mystery of time travel of people living in a small town and there's a murder mystery to be solved. The characters are great and the story is very well written. There's also a lot of humor. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and am moving on to the next story.

This was a totally different book for me. I usually read murder mysteries. It really was a book I couldn't put down. Was reading at times I don't usually do. The characters were certainly unique. The whole book was unique. I love to write and I wonder how Ami Diane dreamed up this concept. I will definitely be looking for more of her books. Thank you for a couple of hours respite from this miserable time in our lives.
