Free Bird: A Memoir by Amber White

Read Online and Download Free Bird: A Memoir by Amber White. A heartfelt memoir about the relationship between a daughter and her drug addicted father. The story spans from the author's earliest chaotic childhood memories into her adulthood and as the story unfolds, so does the author's understanding of her father and herself. In the author's quest to understand her father's destructive, bizarre behavior, she discovers forgiveness, the power of loss, and self-love. The author's perspective is unique in that she pursues a career in law enforcement, arguably in an effort to somehow save her father. The story is told mostly from the author's account, but becomes very powerful when her father's voice is introduced in the form of personal letters. In the end, the author is able to reconcile her past and appreciate that although her father was her biggest saboteur, he was also her greatest teacher.

Free Bird: A Memoir by Amber White Review

We meet the little girl as she is peering into something you can't un see and we journey with her as she attempts to make sense of events that created and shaped her life well beyond the expected death of her 'teacher'...her dad.Like many children, there is a desire to please and to gain acceptance from our first teachers...our parents. This book is full of contradiction of what is right and wrong...and I felt both sides. Life is like that, really. We look at both sides and we have to decide which will be our path. The profound and unconditional love between father and child was undeniable. And certainly could have created a much different outcome. From the beginning I felt a strong moral compass deepen and an inner strength grow so powerful as the author learns from events and situations that the only life to navigate and to save was her own.I was shocked...I was surprised...I cried and I laughed...but mostly I understood the author's desire for inner peace and acceptance.

To say the least this book was more than disturbing, but my journey to reach the end was most compelling. I personally know the author; Amber amazed me with the depth that she was able to take me as a reader into her Dad's character, personality and his complete free spirited life style. I could almost describe him as a fictional character, but he truly did exist because I knew Dean.Amber and Adam are exceptional adults, both with beautiful families of their own, even with the memories of a non conventional and one would say abusive childhood they have over come many obstacle. Also, one has to give thanks to their Grandma and Grandpa Kruck for giving them stability when they needed it most, in their teen years.Thank you Amber for sharing this most unique, touching and insightful journey into your Dad's world and your place within it. God Bless!

Free Bird is about an amazing flight that the author was able to take despite various hardships in her life. The hardships detailed in the book describe the complex relationship with her father and how these obstacles actually shaped her into the remarkable person she is today. The last two or three pages in the book alone are worth the price of the book.Amber’s father Dean was a very complex person. I had the pleasure of knowing him and his family for over 40 years. I’m amazed how Amber was able to capture the essence of Dean.I highly recommend this book, especially if you grew up in a challenging family environment. The lesson here is that you can become a product of your environment or you can adapt, grow and blossom in spite of it. From this book you will learn that life is schooling that will either define you or that you will learn and grow from.

Free Bird is a well written and very heartfelt book. Once I got started it was hard to put down. It was awesome to see the author prosper and live an amazing life in spite of the challenges she faced growing up. This type of story can give hope to others that deal with drug addicted and/or narcissistic parents. There is hope and Amber White is proof of that.

"Freebird A Memoir" is an emotional and inspiring story about a daughter and her drug addicted father. Her journey to try and understand life as she knows it, is truly amazing! I cried, laughed out loud and it touched my heart in so many ways. The message at the end is beautiful and I think so important. It will remind people that to truly love another person, depends on first loving yourself.
