Good resource, but an awful lot of work for something you could build with available components.
Very nice step by step guide. The missing thing for me is lack of real time user application implementation approach, which can be done using various approaches (e.g. via API, or MQTT). Also some thoughts on data visualization and devices management GUI could be discussed.
I found the book very enjoyable. I gained many valuable and practical insights on designing an IoT platform. The book has detailed step by step implementation instructions and includes rationale on technology selection. It covers MQTT protocol, Mosquitto broker/server, Node RED, websockets, code, validation steps, command lines, configuration steps etc. in sufficient depth for the first time IoT developer to get started, and to implement successfully.The book lives up to the following promises on what it covers
- Architecting an interconnected system
- Developing a flexible architecture
- Creating a redundant communication platform
- Prioritizing system requirements with a bottom-up approachI’d recommend it to anyone getting into the IoT space or wanting to build or design an IoT platform quickly from scratch.
BUT... I want to take a star off for using Digital Ocean. Azure or Aws would have been a better. However the breakdown and the content is so educational I recommend it to anyone who has to learn from fundamentals or is very new to the subject. In short: buy, worth it for 19 buck or less.
