No One Man Should Have All That Power: How Rasputins Manipulate the World by Amos Barshad

Read Online and Download No One Man Should Have All That Power: How Rasputins Manipulate the World by Amos Barshad. An exploration of infamous, controversial figures and how they exert control. Amos Barshad has long been fascinated by the powerful. But not by elected officials or natural leaders—he’s interested in their scheming advisors, the dark figures who wield power in the shadows. And, as Barshad shows in No One Man Should Have All That Power, the natural habitat of these manipulators is not only political backrooms. It’s anywhere power dynamics exist—from Hollywood to drug cartels, from recording studios to the NFL. In this wildly entertaining, wide-ranging, and insightful exploration of the phenomenon, Barshad takes readers into the lives of more than a dozen of these notorious figures, starting with Grigori Rasputin. An almost mythical Russian mystic, Rasputin drank, danced, and healed his way into a position of power behind the last of the tsars. But not every one of these figures rose to power through lechery or magical cures. Barshad explores how they got there, how they wielded control, what led to their downfall or staved it off, and what lessons we can take from them, including how to spot Rasputins in the wild. Based on interviews with well-known personalities like Scooter Braun (Justin Bieber’s manager), Alex Guerrero (Tom Brady’s trainer), and Sam Nunberg (Trump’s former aide) and original reporting on figures like Nicaragua’s powerful first lady Rosario Murillo and the Tijuana cartel boss known as “Narcomami,” No One Man Should Have All That Poweris an eye-opening book from an exciting new voice.

No One Man Should Have All That Power: How Rasputins Manipulate the World by Amos Barshad Review

I didn't know much about Rasputin before this book and thought he was probably just another boring historical figure. But this book changed all the misconceptions I had about Rasputin -- Amos Barshad writes in a way that makes you laugh and keep turning the page. It's like your best friend is telling you their best story.Rasputin is a wildly fascinating character, and the book only gets better as you see how the Rasputin archetype has lived on and evolved -- from Scooter Braun to Tom Brady's trainer to "Narcomami," this book proves that the people who wield control and power over famous people are even more interesting than famous people themselves.

Not at all a topic that I had interest in but really enjoyed it. The theme and ideas were clearly laid out and reinforced but all in an almost storybook way. Essentially a series of related short stories that build upon and reinforce each other.A timely topic that should come with a little bit of a warning. You might not actually learning about some of these people and the bad they do.Here's to hoping he is more Scooter Braun than Steve Bannon of his HOA

I've been following Amos for years. His writing stands out among the crowd, especially fellow journalists. He has special taste for details, and the capacity to bring these unusual details to life in a true and specific way.If you're considering this book, do it! Amos' writing will surprise you and stretch you - and in the process reveal just how flat a lot of other journalistic writing today is.

I've been a fan of Amos's work since his days at Grantland and Vulture, and this book didn't disappoint. If you're looking for a better understanding of the world's great manipulators--from Justin Bieber's manager to Tom Brady's controversial trainer to a former Trump aide to the guy who inspired/recruited Denis Cuspert, the infamous German rapper-turned-ISIS propagandist--then this is the book for you.
