The Window by Amelia Brunskill Review

The Window is the story of Jess Cutter, a teenager whose identical twin sister Anna is killed in a tragic accident as the book opens. Or was it an accident?Anna was the outgoing one, while Jess is an introvert. Jess is devastated by the loss of her twin, and she is trying hard to understand what happened and why. As she tries to deal with her tremendous loss, she keeps asking questions, even though others do not want to answer them. She discovers that many people, including Anna, have secrets that they do not want to reveal. This book is hard to put down! It is well written and compelling. I especially enjoyed Jess, the main character, who tells the story, and the plot was intricate and fascinating. While it has some sad themes, it is fascinating, and I found the resolution quite satisfying. I did not figure out what was going on before Jess did.I also have to say: Technology has provided new ways to be cruel to other people. And it is hard to be a teenager these days.I hope Amelia will be writing more books soon!

The book is great. I loved it. I personally had a hard time with it bc I have sisters that age a little older actually that are twins . The way she explains grief is a perfect description. I think losing a child is probably equal to losing a twin so as a mother and sister of many siblings including that set of twins I found it to be emotional. I think it’s realistic as well and maybe that’s why I much as I wanted to know what was happening I needed time and space to put it down and couldn’t finish it straight away.

One of my favorite genres of watch-on-a-weekend-morning TV is Lifetime movies about teens in trouble. That was exactly the kind of vibe I got from The Window, and it was right up my alley. We got the teacher with inappropriate boundaries angle, we the got underage drinking, we got the ineffective local law enforcement, we got [can't say because spoilers, yo], and SO MANY SECRETS, all wrapped up in a mystery to be solved by a girl who tragically lost her twin sister. I just ate it up. The Window is a book with sad moments while our hero works through her loss, but the layers of the story unfold with a steady momentum and the ending is quite satisfying. Highly recommend for a cozy rainy weekend read.

I am floored that this is their first novel. I seriously adored reading this book. I loved the author's voice so much. There were so many dynamic characters. I am in awe. Absolutely loved this book.

I bought my 10-year old niece (a pretty advanced reader) this book for Hanukkah, and she finished it before the holiday even ended! (She read it in <3 days!) I have officially gotten tons of Auntie points for recommending this book to her. My older niece is now reading it, as am I (I had to buy a copy for myself.) Highly recommend this book!
