Civil Engineering PE Practice Exams: Five Full Breadth Exams With Detailed Solutions by Ali Asadi P.E. Review
I purchased this book of practice problems as part of my preparation for the Civil: Geotechnical PE Exam, which I took in October, 2019. After taking the exam and finding out that I passed on the first try, I'd put the difficulty of problems into three general categories: Easy, Average, and Hard. I felt like the problems in this book were representative of the Easy and Average categories, compared to the problems that I encountered on the exam. There were certainly harder questions on the exam (even in the breadth section), but the problems in this book were representative of at least half of the questions on the exam and provided solid practice for the Civil breadth portion of the exam.Really, the biggest drawback is that I found about 2-4 errors in each of the 5 practice exams. Even with those errors in place, I would probably still give this book 4 stars, just because of the number of quality practice problems that you get for the price. What pushes it over to be a 5-star product is that I was able to contact Ali, and he was very responsive, when I brought the potential errors to his attention. I'm confident that he has or will address any legitimate issue that's found in this or his other books.
There are so many errors in this book. It’s very frustrating to work a problem then check your answer and see that the author hasn’t provided an answer that corresponds to the question.I will say that the number of questions you get in this book will at least help you recognize the breath of what you need to study, but I wouldn’t recommend using this book as your sole or primary study means.
Really not worth your time. Both my husband and I are practicing for the PE exam. We found several errors along with poorly written questions that leave far too much open to interpretation. On top of wrong solutions and poorly written questions there are also grammatical and spelling errors all over the place which makes us question the validity. It is clear this book was not reviewed for mistakes. Don’t waste your money.
Coupled with Ali's Bible review, these exams will fully prepare you for the kinds of problems encountered on the NCEES exam. Problem scopes are relevant and detailed in a way that strengthens the underlying concepts being tested on. Highly recommend it.
The selection of problems is great for the price. It’s a good book to study with but it has a lot of typos and a few of the solutions have errors. Also I noticed a few problems are repeated throughout the book but it’s not enough to make a big difference.
