Lumber Jills: The Unsung Heroines of World War II by Alexandra Davis,Katie Hickey Review

I love historical fiction, and now my kids do too :) There was so much for them to interact with in this book, and so many questions to ask. "Let me count the sixteen train cars!" "Where did the wood they chopped go?" "Are those cranes made of wood too?" My favorite part was the author's note at the beginning: "It's a heroes' story meant for our children—the universally small—as an encouragement and reminder that even the very small can change the course of history."It's a story my kids want to read over and over again—and so do I!

It has great illustrations and is well written - so many women were given opportunities during war time that they would not been given otherwise and this is a fun way to celebrate their strength, their friendship and contribution to not only the war effort but to each others lives and families. Looking forward to the next one from Alexandra!

This children's book is profound in its simplicity and historical fact. It is just fun to read with children. The illustrations are colorful and action oriented and challenges kids to observe actions, objects, and team work scenarios. This is one of those books that children will want to listen to and learn to read over and over again. Highly recommended.

Story was interestingly presented; pictures very appropriate and helpful alongside the story!!

Our daughter absolutely loves this book. After reading, she kept repeating to herself "And one stout heart" as she wandered around the house with her dolls. The story is empowering and educational. The writing sings. The illustrations are beautiful, too.Five stars!
