I’ve been a huge fan of Allison’s since her first book: Whole Bowls. I was so excited to get her new book. I marked numerous recipes to make and started with the roasted squash and pink grapefruit almond cake. Both were wonderful! The cake was so good I made her orange olive oil version too. Looking through the book I got inspired and excited about all of the tasty lunch options it provided. The recipes can transition into dinner by adding extra protein. Can’t recommend this book enough! It’s colorful, easy to follow and simply packed with delicious recipes!
The recipes are very tasty, and I finally know what to take to work. They're built so you can plan ahead, pack them up in advance and take them throughout the week. There are also tips and tricks provided along the way so I can change things up if I want.
At first blush not very useful, but honestly it makes me think of this meal in a whole new way. Not like dinner. Key differences: packability, scale and planning.Caveat though: it’s scaled kind of really for a single person. All the recipes are geared for adults maybe single or a couple. Well nothing is one size fits all.
Modern Lunch: +100 Recipes for Assembling the New Midday Meal: Lots of variety, without a lot of heavy use of certain ingredients, except various kinds of greens, which are kind of essential to salads. She provides some alternatives and variations on the recipes, plus, some "formula" combinations for doing your own thing. Most recipes include green veggies, which was my aim in getting this book.
The recipes I made are easy and economical. I can carry them with me when I am out all day and feel healthy and nourished. I'm going to try the sweet potato soup base next.
