Taking Sides: Clashing Views in Lifespan Development by Allison Buskirk-Cohen Review

Interesting topics. Irritating that you have to look up the assigned readings by titles and not chapter/unit numbers even though those are included in the TOC. Perspectives are supported giving you food for thought, but sometimes the only support is a bunch of statistics which is boring to read.

Not the latest research. It’s purposefully divided, of course, but for so many new editions I thought it would be the latest research.

This book was required reading for my graduate level lifespan development class. I appreciate the takes given on hot topics, but I was torn when reading one side backed by evidence and the other by opinion. Furthermore, I found it irritating to have an expensive book that had grammatical errors, typos, and it felt cheap. Frankly, the good I got out of the book was from my professor that designed assignments to equip students to dig deeper into topics and make connections to other course material, further reinforcing our learning and enhancing research skills.
